Neoplasticism style and Piet Mondrian
Masterpieces of elemental lines and shapes from a Dutch artist
How neoplasticism appeared
The journal became the organ of neoplasticism, the utopia of the new plastic culture.
It was founded by Mondrian together with the artist Theo van Doesburg.
In 1917, the term «Neoplasticism» was used for the first time in the magazine De Stijl.
Basis of style
Pete put the principle of ponderation (weighing), or «dynamic balance», into the basis of his compositions. The colors in the paintings were displayed in a certain amount for balance.
Piet Mondrian and his new style vision
Rhythm is the main principle of shaping. The lines were given a symbolic and even sacred meaning.
The use of lines, geometric shapes, primary colors of the spectrum (blue, red, yellow). Verticals and horizontals, plus and minus, dynamics and statics, masculine and feminine.

Becoming
an artist
«The whole world can be reflected by two basic contradictions: the horizontal as the Earth’s line of force and the vertical, which originates in the center of the Sun»
In 1919−1938, Mondrian worked in France, then moved to London, and in 1940 to New York.
Education
Mondrian was born in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. His father was a qualified elementary school art teacher.
Peter learned to draw early and in 1892 continued his studies in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam.
Creation
In the post-war period of his work, Mondrian began to convey dynamic effects through his paintings («Broadway boogie-woogie»).
The design of Mondrian’s New York studio was shown at exhibitions in New York, London, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, and Berlin.
